Pattern of UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam

Assertion and Reasoning

This is another style of question in which two statements are presented. The first statement is an assertion and the second statement is reasoning i.e, the reason of it. Now there are four options:

a. Both Assertion and Reasoning are true and Reasoning is the correct explanation of the Assertion
b. Both Assertion and Reasoning arte true but reasoning is not the correct explanation of the Assertion
c. Assertion is correct but the reasoning is false
d. Assertionis false but the reasoning is true

Now you have to tick the correct option. The question itself can be from any topic i.e, history, geography, general science, INM etc. Primarily it checks the contextual knowledge in case of question related to history and INM and scientific reasoning in case of questions from geography and general science. Such type of questions are a bit ticklish however, regular practise will see you get through.
